Eugene J. Crawford, Sr.
Eugene John Crawford, Sr., 72, husband of Elizabeth Wagner Crawford of 155 W. Lancaster ave., Paoli, died Saturday morning after a brief illness.
Born in Philadelphia, Aug 12, 1888, he was the son of the late John and Eugenia Evans Crawford. He had been a resident of Paoli for 40 years and retired in 1955 from the Pennsylvania Railroad as a conductor after 47 years of service.
The Paoli resident was known by his many friends as "Pop" Crawford, and always had a smile for travelers of the Paoli Local, where he served so long and well.
Mr. Crawford was a member of St. Norbert's RC Church of Paoli and the Holy Name Society; Cardinal Dougherty General Assembly Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree; West Chester Council No. 1333, Knights of Columbus; Pennsylvania Railroad Holy Name Society of Philadelphia; Pennsylvania Railroad Retired Mens Association of Philadelphia; Brotherhood of Railroad trainmen, Pennsylvania Lodge 511; Paoli Fire Co.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons and three daughters, Eugene J., Jr., Berwyn; Charles F. and William J., both of Paoli; Thomas P. of Straford; Elizabeth M. and Dorothea L, both at home; Virginia, wife of Joseph R. Higgins of Berwyn.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Alleva Funeral Home, 1724 E. Lancaster Ave., Paoli, on Wednesday, January 11 at 9 a.m. Solemn Requiem Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Norbert's Church, Greenlawn and Leopard Roads, Paoli. Interment in St. Monica's Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers spiritual bouquets will be appreciated.
