Services for Albert Cleve Hemler, 76, 415 Who Who Drive, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the West Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Bacon officiating. Burial is to follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.

Hemler died Saturday (Aug. 14, 1993) at home. He was born June 16, 1917, in Alto, La., and moved to Carlsbad at the age of five. They lived here until June of 1926.

Hemler came back to Carlsbad for a visit and found employment. He remained until 1965. During that time, he met Louise E. Griffin here, and they married Dec. 25, 1937, in Roswell.

Hemler worked as an electrician at the potash mines until 1949 when he resigned to start building houses on a full-time basis. He built about 250 houses and businesses in Carlsbad. In 1950, he bought 150 acres at D'Arbonne, La., for a real estate development and moved his family there.

Hemler retired in 1974 and began to study oil painting at Louisiana Tech University. He continued to study until he received a bachelor's degree in May 1980 and attended the Louisiana Tech University campus in Rome, Italy, for six weeks during the summer of 1975 to study art appreciation.

He was a member of the Art Association and the Masur Museum in Monroe, La., Ouachita Parish. He was also a member of the Water Color Society in Baton Rouge, La., and of the Louisiana Tech University Alumni Association.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Hemler, of Carlsbad; two sons, Jim and Cleve Hemler, both of Carlsbad; and two sisters, Bernice Perry of Carlsbad and Louise Malone of Downsville, La.
