Ashton Willard Marco was born on Febr. 19, 1878 in Shelby County, Iowa, the son of Joseph Marco and wife, Emmaline Holman. He grew to manhood in Iowa.

He and Charlotte Steen were united in marriage on Febr. 22, 1901 at Kirkman, Iowa. Of this union, ten children were born, nine of which are still living.

The family moved to Greeley County, Nebraska in March of 1910, and farmed west of Wolbach and later moved to Brayton, where he was in business for several years. They moved to a farm east of Wolbach in 1920 and four years later, returned to Brayton. He worked for the State Department of Roads and Irrigation from 1926 to 1941. The family moved to Wolbach in 1928, where he was to spend all but the last year of his life. He was a resident of the Beebe Rest Home at Aurora for the past year. He entered the Aurora hospital on October 12 and departed this life there on Nov. 24, 1959 at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 5 days. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Wolbach, having recently been baptized into the Christian faith.

He served several terms on the board of education of the Brayton school district and while living in Wolbach served as police magistrate and was elected to a term as village mayor.

He was a lover of sports, especially baseball and played semi-professional baseball for a number of years in Iowa before moving to Nebraska.

He leaves to mourn his passing his nine children, all of whom were present for the funeral: six sons, Lake and Clayton of Wolbach, Robert and Cress of Greeley, Rex of Fullerton and Max of Arcadia; three daughters, Mrs. Reva Steenson and Mrs. Irene Thompson of Wolbach and Mrs. Echo Horn of Omaha; one brother, Jay Marco of Kirkman, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Grace Stone of Miami, Florida; 38 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant daughter, Opal, his parents, five sisters, two brothers and two grandsons.
