The following from Joseph Martin:
For his services Gen. William Martin was given a huge area of land around Newport, Wales and the Martin family remained there until about 1600 when one of my Great Grandfathers, another William Martin moved to Bristol, England, about 40 miles away and began an ocean going shipping business with 3 ships, one being the "Brice" which he sent my 5th Great grandfather, Capt. Joseph Martin to America on in 1725.
===
This was Capt. Joseph Martin Sr. who married Susannah Chiles, the great granddaughter of the somewhat famous Walter Chiles, Sr. of Jamestown.
===
In about 1726 they married, eventually Capt. Joseph and Susannah moved to an area 8 miles NW of Charlottesville, near Earlysville. He also owned a farm near Stony Point.
Joseph owned two large farms there and remained there for the rest of his life. They lived near the Rivanna River.
===
They had 5 sons and 6 daughters.
===
Joseph Sr. married Ann Pulliam Sandidge, after Susannah Chiles Martin died. Joseph waited over a year to marry Ann but they did not move to TN. Both died at their home, him first in 1761 and her later. They had no children as some records say.
===
Ann Pulliam Sandidge was b. 1702, and married (1) William Sandidge, Sr. ca 1720-25. William died in 1747 in Spotsylvania County, VA.
Widow, Ann, married (2) Joseph Martin of Albermarle County, VA., ca. 1754. She would have been about 52 yrs old when she married Joseph Martin - no children of her second marriage.
He was a son of William Martin.
