Funeral services for Ruth Snow Webb, 93, were held Saturday, November 18th, 2006, at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home where Bro. Mark Bass officiated. Interment followed in Town Cemetery. Ms. Webb passed away Thursday, November 16th, 2006, at Rolling Green Village Health Care in South Carolina. She graduated from High School in Smithville in 1932, worked for some years, and then graduated in 1940 from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. During World War II, she enlisted in the WAVES section of he United States Navy, serving from October 1942 until July 1946, when she was Honorably discharged, rising to the rank of Lt. Commander. After the war, she worked with the federal government's Civil Service, in the field of Personnel Management for 18 years. First, she was in Washington, D.C. as a Personnel Management Specialist for the U.S. Health Department. Afterward, she worked for the U.S. Army in Anchorage, Alaska as Head of Civilian Employment and then the U.S. Navy in Saigon, Vietnam, as Chief, Civilian Department. She returned to Washington, D.C. in 1965 and sold real estate for 5 years. In 1972, she moved back to Smithville, TN and traveled to several foreign countries, going to Spain, France, Germany, Italy, England, Greece, China, South America, Indonesia and Thailand. Ruth became a member of Smithville First Baptist Church in 1928, and had been a member longer than anyone now living. She was a Charter Member of the DeKalb County Friends of the Library and a former member of the Smithville Study Club. In 1990, she moved to Greenville, SC, to be near her sister, Helen. She was also active in the Greenville Women's Club and was an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas B. and Sarah Snow Webb; three brothers, W. Houston, T.B. and James R. Webb; and three sisters, Georgia May Webb, Jessie Loring Arnold and Helen Webb Cline. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Nell Webb of Carthage; four nephews, Howard Webb Loring and wife, Mary Ann of Florida, Billy Webb and wife, Earlene of Chattanooga, Tommy Webb and wife, Audrey of Smithville, and Kenneth Webb and wife, Faye of Pulaski; two nieces, Sara Lynn Postma and husband, Jan of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Elizabeth Baucoma and husband, Clyde of Greenville, South Carolina. Pallbearers were Tommy, Kenneth, Rodney, and William Earl Webb, Clay Loring and Jan Postma. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
