Survived by wife Peggy Meier, of Plattsmouth, Ne.

Children: Marlene Meier of Omaha, Ne., Charlene (Jim) Johnson of Bellevue, Ne., MonFord Meier Jr. of Elk City, Ne.; Cyndi (Ron) Smith of Kirkland, Washington.

Step-Children: Rich (Chris) Williaams; Julie (Chuck) Grancer; Lisa (Andy) Voss; Laura (Sean) Polhmeier, all of Plattsmouth, Ne.

17 Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Grandson,

Brothers: Keith (Maxine) Meier, and Willard (Jane)Meier ,both of Arlington, Ne.

As well as numerous nieces, nephews,and friends.Monford Meier "Monty" Sr. was born on March 19, 1924 in Oxford, Nebraska to Albert and Wilhelmina (Drew) Meier. He passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 9 days.

He was raised and schooled in Arlington, Nebraska, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Monty was united in marriage to Rosalynn Henderson in 1948. He was later united in marriage to Peggy (Young) on August 19, 1999.

Monty served in the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry division during World War II. His time in the military took him to the front lines of battle in both Europe and Africa. From 1942-1945, he served in the African campaign, the invasion of Sicily, the invasion of Normandy on Omaha beach, battle at crucifix hill and the battle of the Bulge. He was awarded five battle stars, 2 arrow heads, The Presidential Unit Citation, good conduct medal and a Purple Heart. After his discharge from the military, he became a crane operator for over 30 years and was a member of Local #571, Operators Union in Omaha. After his retirement he operated his own tree spade service for 11 years.

He was a member of Lepert-Wolever Post #2543 V.F.W. and enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, planting and caring for trees, tinkering with heavy machinery and had a soft spot in his heart for all animals. He is survived by his wife Peggy Meier, Plattsmouth, children, Marlene Meier, Omaha, Charlene (Jim) Johnson, Bellevue, Monford Meier, Jr. Elk City; Cyndi (Ron) Smith, Kirkland, WA; step-children, Rick (Chris) Williams; Julie (Chuck) Grancer; Lisa (Andy) Voss; Laura (Sean) Pohlmeier all of Plattsmouth; 17 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild; brothers, Keith (Maxine) Meier and Willard (June) Meier both of Arlington, NE. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Alberta Calahan

SERVICE: Tues. (11/2) at 11:00 A.M. – Harvey Funeral Home Chapel, Plattsmouth, NE

VISITATION: Mon (11/1) from 1 -9 PM with family greeting friends from 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.
INTERMENT: Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth.
