Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County)
Dec 29, 1905
CAVEY--At Mount Vernon Washington Thursday morning, Dec 21, 1905, of tuberculosis of the liver, Mina, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos Cavey of Longmont, aged 25 years and 13 days.
Another one of Longmont's young people has been taken and another Longmont home has been darkened by the angel of death.
Mina Gertrude Cavey was born on the farm near Longmont, Dec. 8th 1880, where she spent her childhood days, going to the district school until she grew older when she attended the schools in town, and in 1896 she with her parents came to town to live, and here they lived since that time until last July when, becoming alarmed for the health of their daughter they took her to Washington hoping the change might restore her to health, but it was not be be, for instead of the trip benefiting her she grew gradually worse until it was evident that her days upon earth were of short duration.
Mina realized her condition sooner than did her parents, and made all preparations for her departure as calmly as any one preparing for a pleasant journey telling her mother just what to do with her possessions, and making almost all of the arrangements for her funeral and burial thus lighening as much as possible the burden which would other wise fall so heavily upon her parents.
Just six months from the time they left Longmont, in the early hours of the morning of Dec 21st, she passed away after months of suffering and was at rest.
The journey home was a long and tedious one for Mr. and Mrs. Cavey being four days and night on the road arriving in Longmont Tuesday morning Dec. 26.
The funeral took place Dec 27th at the Christian church, Rev. E. F. Harris conductin the services assisted by L. H. Humphreys and by her request she laid to rest in the Longmont cemetery by the side of her cousin Robt Hinman, a large consourse of friends being in attendance.
