In 1945, Father Deeves entered the Society of Jesus [the Jesuits] in Grand Coteau, LA on August 14. he studied at St. Charles College in Grand Coteau and then at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, obtaining a B.S. in physics from the latter institution in 1951. After three years of teaching at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida, he began theology studies for the priesthood, being ordained a Roman Catholic priest on June 18, 1958 in Mobile at Spring Hill College.
To all who knew him, Father Deeves was always ready to offer a pun or joke, a warm smile, a shoulder to cry on, or a hand to shake, but most of all, the example of a dedicated and loving priest.
