soldier in the War of 1812 and the Mexican War. He homesteaded in Section 13,Barnhill Twp., Wayne Co., Ill. ca 1816. Married to Nancy Roberts at Rutherford Co., Tenn. on Aug.24th,1819. They had 13 children

We needed to put powder on William Simpson's stone in order to read it. Wm Simpson [Raised letters at top]. Died Dec 10 1856 Aged 62 yr & 5 Mo 15? Ds. (Photo taken by Steve Ewing, great-grandson of John T. Ewing and Lucy C. Simpson buried in the next row.)

We had to take a rubbing to see if this was William Simpson Jr's tombstone. Top letters were raised. Rubbing on paper below stone. (Photo taken 2012 by Steve Ewing).

This is an overview of where the William Simpson Jr stone is in the Simpson cemetery. Photo was taken by standing next to the William SR stone (not shown; he was a Revolutionary War soldier). William Sr's wife Elizabeth Cheshire;s grave marker has a flower on it (left of center). William JR's grave is white plain stone to right of center and his spouse Nancy Roberts is the stone laying on the ground to the right of Wlm Jr's stone. If you look just beyond Nancy's stone you see a brown raised stone -- that is Lucy Catherine Ewing's stone, wife of John Tilford Ewing. The two white stones (left center) to the left of William Simpson are for Wm and Nancy's children who died. Photo taken by Stephen Ewing in 2012; he is great-grandson of John Tilford Ewing and Lucy Cath Simpson.
