Florence developed leukemia and over a period of six years received 40 pints of blood, nearly all donated by friends and relatives. Since most of their friends in Wilson were Bohemians she was kidded about being a "Bo-hunk", having changed her German blood for theirs. She died at the family home in Wilson, Ks. on Dec. 3, 1949, and was buried Dec. 6 at Excelsor Lutheran Cemetery NE of Wilson. She was a member of the Lutheran Church most of her life, except when she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian Church in Wilson in order to have a church home in her community.
Florence was very generous with her time and cared for her mother before her death, then took Roy's mother into their home until she passed on and finally was caring for Aunt Minnie Darling, in the Stehley home, at the time she herself died.
Following is her obituary from the Beloit newspaper:

Dec. 3, having reached the age of 50 years, eight months and 26 days. On June 20, 1922, at Beloit she was united in marriage to LeRoy Stehley and to this union two daughters were born. Pall bearers were Gerald Bassford, Owen Moore, Rexford Hodler, Wybern Berneking, Donald Vetter, and Arlyn Simmons, nephews of the deceased. Interment was in the cemetery at Wilson.
