Cleon Craig, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the U of U hospital on April 14, 2006, of complications from a cardiac arrest. Cleon was born September 1, 1920, the 10th and youngest child of William John and Catherine Evans Padfield Craig in Winter Quarters, Carbon County, Utah. He was the last surviving child of his immediate family. In his early years, he attended school in Castle Gate and Price, Utah. He attended Henagers Business College. He was taught, and then shared with his children, the importance of good work ethics and to not just do a job well, but to go two miles extra! He didnt like being late. He owned his own grocery store in Cedar City, Utah. He learned to be a hard worker, in his youth, from great parents. He could do anything he set his mind to (except plumbing)! He was a salesman for Gerber Baby Food company for over 25 years. When he retired from Gerber, he became a salesman for Attaboy food company. Then, he volunteered, and later became manager, at the Bishops Storehouse in Lindon, where he worked for another 17 years. He moved to St. George and worked at the Coronada Motel as a maintenance worker, until an automobile accident forced his retirement at the age of 82. He married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Thorn, on September 19, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were a special couple to many people through their 52 years of marriage. They had three children: Marylou (Rulon) Condie, of Springville; Kelly (Ann) Craig, of Springville; and Corry (Kristin) Craig, of Logan. They have 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Elaine preceded him in death on March 7, 1992. After Elaines death, Cleon married Mary Ellen Vincent Hone, in Springville, January 16, 1993. He became step-father to Mary Ellens four children: Brad (Blanca) Hone, of St. George; Becky (Ray) Adams, of Hurricane; Melissa (Jared) Ruiz, of Payson; and Kellie Ann (Mike) Duncan, of Spanish Fork. Thirteen grandchildren survive his second marriage. They lived in Springville, American Fork, and then moved to Ivins, Utah. He served in many church callings: Sunday School superintendent, Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum President, High Priests group leader. He was honored as the recipient of the Distinguished President Award from the Kiwanis Club when he was president of the Springville Kiwanis Club. He also received a safe driving award from Gerber Products Company. He was a fun-loving tease and he still sported a current motorcycle license at the age of 85. A time of commemorating this remarkable mans life for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at 11 a.m., at the LDS chapel located at 55 North Main, Springville. Friends and family may call on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville; or, at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary.
