Herbert O. Schumacher had deep roots in Ira and Akron. His great-uncle Ferdinand Schumacher was a founder of Quaker Oats. Herbert was married to Frances Evelyn Oneal of Akron. They had one son, Herbert Jr., who died shortly after birth and is buried at Mt. Peace Cemetary. They had a daughter Dorothy Evelyn 3 years later who married James C. Swartz of Tallmadge. Herbert was interested in gardening, history, travel and was an avid Mason. He helped start the Akron Equipment Company with C. R. Quine.
He was truly a self-made man.
