CONFEDERATE WAR VETERAN
Funeral services for Alexander C. [his d cert & stone = Archibald C.] Spears, 83 years old, soldier, teacher, merchant, and poet, who died Sunday, were conducted Monday afternoon at his residence, 615 North Lancaster Avenue, with the Rev. Wallace Bassett officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Mr. Spears was a Confederate veteran and in his early manhood was a teacher. He left that profession to enter business, from which he retired several years ago and devoted himself to writing poetry, of which a large collection was published. He was a member of the Poetry Society of Texas. He had been a resident of Dallas for thirty-five years.
He is survived by one son, W. T. Spears; two daughters, Mrs. Edward T. Moore, and Mrs. R. L. Chapman of Dallas; a brother, J. W. Spears of Greenville; and four grandchildren.
