Charles C. Ackerman, 80, of Dora died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper. Rev. Mike Irons and Rev. Herb Williamson will officiate and New Horizon Funeral Home will direct.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. tonight, Sept. 7, 2001, in the parlor at the funeral home and from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
Ackerman was a United States Army veteran of World War II and member of the VFW. He retired after 35 years in the Army National Guard and was a charter member of the East Walker Lion's Club and Dora Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former Dora City Councilman and a member of the Dora Gas and Water Board. He was a life-long member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Ackerman was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Connell Ackerman.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Ackerman of Dora and Phillip Ackerman and his wife, Cathy, of Morris; a sister, Mary Eliza Ackerman of Dora; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Chris Ackerman; and a niece, Sadie Blaylock.
He was a son of Charles S. & Sadie E. Comer Ackerman.
