Sports Writer for Philadelphia Record Was Baseball Expert
PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 5 - Donald E. (Don) Basenfelder, a sports writer for The Philadelphia Record, who was regarded as one of the country's leading authorities on baseball, died last night in Temple University Hospital. He was 41 years old.
Mr. Basemfelder, who was born in Somers Point, N.J., had served as a reporter on the old Atlantic City Item, The Camden Post and The Camden Evening Courier. In 1936 he took a position with the The Sporting News in St. Louis.
While with The Sporting News, Mr. Basenfelder completed his compilation of The Baseball Register, a "Who's Who" on baseball players. He joined the staff of The Record five years ago.
He leaves a widow, Mrs. Bertha O'Keefe Basenfelder, and his mother, Mrs. Olan Anderson.
