Dabney Winstead married Valeria Johnston on 29 October 1862 in Hopkins County, Kentucky.

He was a farmer, stockman.

Dabney B. served with the Confederate Army in the Civil War, in General Nathan Bedford Forrest's Cavalry.

After the war, he returned to his Kentucky farm, then in 1886, he moved his family to Parker County, Texas.

In 1901, the Winsteads later bought a farm near Azle, in Tarrant County.

He was justice of the peace there for several years.
