The great granddaughter of patriot, Captain Johan George Printz who was commissioned by Gov. Thomas Jefferson and served on George Washington's staff.

Catharine Griffith was born, raised, and married in Luray. Her father, John William Griffith, a farmer, was a considerable land owner. Her mother, Anna Elizabeth Sours, was from a prominent Luray family. Both of her parents are buried in the Griffith Family Cemetery off Route 669 in Luray.

Catharine married John Samuel Myers, also a farmer and local Luray boy, in 1844. Catharine probably did not have an easy life after marriage. She had eight children. Catharine was 40 when she lost her last child, Casper, shortly after birth. The next year, 1866, her husband died at the young age of 48 of lung disease. John Samuel Myers died in Luray; his burial site is unknown.

Widow Catharine was left with seven children to raise; they ranged in age from 22 to 6 years old. Shortly after her husband's death, Catharine moved her family to Culpeper County, probably at the urging of her oldest son Benjamin Franklin Myers, who had courted and married a Lignum girl, Lucetta Brown. By 1870, according to the US Census, Catharine was living with her son, William Jackson, age 22. William Jackson, still single, was listed as head of household. Also living in the household were Catharine's children John Benjamin and wife Fannie Simms, Laura and husband Thomas Brown, Theodore Socrates, and Levi Eugene. Catharine was still living in son William Jackson's household in the 1880 Census.

Catharine died about 1890, age 65, and rests beside her son, William Jackson, in Lael Cemetery. The Lael Cemetery Committee has a record of her burial, and other earlier burials in Lael. However, until recently, neither Catharine nor William had markers at their burial sites.

She was the mother of two daughters and six sons.
