From Brookville Democrat:
A young Franklin County youth died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 23, as a result of a farming accident.
Kyle Kerr, 13, Kerr Road, Cedar Grove, was pronounced dead at the scene by a flight doctor on an Air Care helicopter.
According to a Franklin County Sheriff's Department press release at 2:44 p.m., emergency personnel went to a home on Kerr Road.
It appears that for an unknown reason Kyle entered a semi hopper trailer as it was unloading corn into a pit. He was drawn down under the corn.
Bystanders and emergency personnel pulled Kyle from the hopper trailer. Medical services were performed at the scene, including efforts to revive Kyle, but they were unsuccessful.
FCSD Don Speckman investigated the accident. He was assisted at the scene by FCSD Chief Deputy John Roberts, Drewersburg Volunteer Fire Department, Drewersburg EMS-1, Rescue-24 and Responder 24.
At 7 p.m., Sunday night, Oct. 24, a candlelight vigil in Kyle's honor was held for him at Mt. Carmel School where he was a student.
Counselors were on duty at Mt. Carmel School this week for students and staff, according to Franklin County Community School Corp. Supt. Dr. Debbie Howell. A grief response team from Community Mental Health as well as three FCCSC counselors have been at the school.
She said the students seem to be able to move forward but the staff is having a hard time.
The candlelight vigil seemed to help the students by allowing them to grieve together, she said.
