Daphne Abston Kelley Cavin, a lifelong resident of Boone County, passed away on February 3, 2010. She was born on August 16, 1919, the daughter of Albert L. and Nancy M. (Johnson) Abston. She graduated from Perry Central High School and Indiana College of Beauty Culture. In June 1942, Daphne married Raymond R. Kelley, who was killed in World War II in 1944. She married Oren Marvin Cavin in 1950, and to this union was born four children. They are Janie S. Strawmyer (& Dave) Bond of Lebanon, Oren M. (& Carmen) Cavin of Noblesville, Loren A. (& Pam) Cavin of Clinton, and Nancy R. (& Mark) Pitts of Troy, MO. Survivors in addition to the children are seven grandchildren: Jennifer (& Steve) Fortner, Amy (& Wade) Morrow, Angela (& Dan) Young, Lisa (& Chris) Wescott, Douglas Cavin, Gregory Freshour, and Dana (& Jeffery) Stevens, and eight great-grandchildren: Jack Fortner, Breanna Morrow, Hudson Young, Marcus Fortner, Madilynn Young, Wyatt Morrow, Benjamin Fortner, and Graham Young. Five brothers and four sisters preceded Daphne in death. Of Christian faith, Daphne was a charter member of Lebanon Christian Church, which held a special place in her heart through the years. She was a hair stylist, having owned the Daphne-Ray Beauty Salon in the 1940's, the LaPetite Beauty Salon in the 1970's, and then ending her career at Daphne's Beauty Shop on Chicago Street. She was an active in her church and community. In her younger years, she devoted much time to teaching Sunday School, Youth Groups, helping with programs, and transporting area children to and from the church. In later years, she kept active by visiting the shut-ins, helping the Food Pantry, and volunteering for the Friendly Visitor Program. The Lebanon Chamber of Commerce awarded her the honor Distinguished Senior Citizen. During 1998-1999, Daphne was interviewed on two different occasions by Tom Brokaw, and her story about her first husband's death during WWII appeared in the book, The Greatest Generation.
