Born Friederich Carl Broeker in Hüllhorst, Prussia (what is now in the Minden-Lübbecke district, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany) the son of Johann Heinrich Broeker and Anne Catherine Lücking.

Obituary: Centralia Illinois Evening Sentinel, October 30, 1942 "Fred Broeker, 76, Dies from Injuries"

Fred Broeker, 76, 219 S. Hickory, died at St. Mary's hospital at 4:15 p.m., Thursday. A jury at the inquest conducted by Coroner Robert Hancock returned a verdict of death from a fractured skull caused (illegible). He was removing screens from the windows of his home Wednesday morning when the accident occurred. Mr. Broeker was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Broeker, June 27, 1866 in Germany. He came to the United States when 16 years old. He married Caroline Hake May 19, 1888 in Centralia. He worked in the coal mines and was custodian of the Merchants State Bank for 30 years before retiring a few years ago. Mr. Broeker was a member of the Evangelical Church. Surviving besides his wife is one son, Henry E. Broeker of Centralia; two daughters, Miss Anna Broeker of Centralia, and Mrs. Frank Umble of Kankakee; one brother, Christ C. F. Broeker of Centralia; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Evangelical church with the Rev August F. Warskow officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
