Claude Hardin Handy, 81, of Galax, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Twin County Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 23, 1921, in Grayson County to Samuel Ellis and Nennie Roberts Handy.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Wright Handy of Galax; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Irene Handy and Donald Handy, all of Galax; sisters, Louverna Wright of Ivanhoe, Alieen Littreal and Hattie Hill, both of Fries, and Margaret Finnuty of North Carolina; a brother, Elbert Handy of Seattle, Wash.; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with burial in the Monta Vista Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville VFW Post 1115. Dr. Paul Parker will officiate.
