William was the son of Revolutionary Patriot Samuel Turner (1749-1823) and Jane Vance (1752-1823). He was married 1st to Lydia Jones (1792-1850) and 2nd to Mrs Eliza Coverdill. He was the father of Jane Turner Ramsey Cobaugh (1816-1868), Lydia Turner Glasco (1819-aft 1860), Elizabeth Turner Ingman (1821-1903), David Turner (1827-1897), and William Turner, Jr (1830-1899).
