John C. McNeal, 214 So. Chestnut, North Platte, died following a brief illness at a North Platte hospital, Wednesday, June 27th. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 30, at Maloney-Cox-Kuhns funeral home, with burial in the North Platte cemetery. Mr. McNeal had been employed by the Union Pacific railroad for the past 22 years as carman. Born March 6, 1905, at Gothenburg, Nebraska, he spent most of his early life there, moving to North Platte about twenty-five years ago. Surviving are his widow, Thelma; five brothers: Charles of North Platte, Clarence, Ted and Warren of Gothenburg, and Leroy of Grand Island; three sisters: Mrs. Hazel Lif of Grand island, Mrs. Edna Holderness of Lexington, and Mrs. Katie Cumpston of Gothenburg. Holding many positions in the Baptist church, McNeal was very active in church affairs. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen and a Barber Shop Quartette.
