Alma Haines Oliar Yoder
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, in Zion Memorial Cemetery in Canby for Alma Haines Oliar Yoder, who died Dec. 8 at age 85.

Mrs. Yoder was born Sept. 13, 1913, in Lafayette, Ind. Her maiden name was Oliar. She lived most of her life in the Canby area. She was a homemaker. She married Melvin C. in 1933; he died in 1990.

Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Whitman of Canby and Dian House of Corvallis; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Her son, Warren, died in 1937.

The family suggests remembrances to Canby Senior Center, the Oregon Elks Eye Clinic or a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Canby Funeral Chapel.

The Oregonian newspaper, Friday, December 11, 1998, section B, page B-17.

The above obit states that Alma's maiden name was Oliar. In the State of Oregon marriage record index she is listed as Oilar when she married Melvin Yoder in 1933. All of the censuses and all of the files on Ancestry.com that people have submitted state that her maiden name was Oiler. It appears from research I did that Oilar is the correct spelling of her maiden name.
The above obit also says she was born in Lafayette, IN. Once again, all of the censuses and files on Ancestry.com state she was born in Ohio. It looks like the Oregonian received some incorrect information for Alma to put into her obit.
Once again, the above obit states that Alma's middle name was Haines. That was yet another error in the Oregonian newspaper obit. Alma's middle name was Hain, not Haines. Alma's grandmother, her father's mother, was maiden name Hain and that name carries back quite a long ways as Hain.
