BIBBS, Mother. Dorothy L. - Age 82, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 M.L. King Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor Rodney Ellison officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Tuesday. Mother Bibbs will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Monday.
Mother Dorothy Lee Bibbs was born February, 17, 1928 in Dyersburg, Tennessee, the daughter of Mack and Belvie Wynn. Mother Bibbs accepted Christ at an early age and moved to Flint in her late teens. She and Arch O. Bibbs, Jr. united in marriage, April 11, 1953. Mother Bibbs was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. She loved her family and church. Mother Bibbs also had a passion for baking cakes and pies.
She leaves to cherish her memory: dear and devoted husband of 57 years, Arch Oneal Bibbs; 3 daughters, JoAnn Courts of Davison, MI, Corene Sturghill of Flint and Beverly (Marshall) Tolbert of Macomb, MI; 6 grandchildren, Tennessa (Thereon) Cheatham of St. Louis, MO, Lakia Sturghill of Grand Rapids, MI, Shalonda Tolbert of Sterling Heights, MI, Walter Sturghill, Jr. of Dallas, TX, Lamar Tolbert of Macomb, MI and Stephanie Courts of Ypsilanti, MI; 3 great-grandchildren, Iyanna Bowe, Jeremy and Markeya Tolbert; 5 sisters, Louise Ray, Lovie McGaughy, Loretta (Bernard) Grant, Virginia Berry and Margree Alexander; brother, Mack Wynne; sisters-in-law, Louella Wynne, Onie Jean Wynne and Mary Smylor; a host of other relatives and friends including special cousin, Ileatha Collins, Tipton and Jones families.
