Obituary
Unidentified Newsclipping - 1872
BURTIS.--Peter S. Burtis was born Westchester County, in the State of New York, December 20, 1822. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in the Town of Eastchester, when about 21 years of age, and has ever since been a faithful member of the church of his choice. Three years ago he removed to Vineland, New Jersey, where he continued to reside until his death, on the 28th of July of the present year. Three weeks before that time, he received a serious injury from the handle of a cultivator while laboring in a plot of stumpy ground. He continued to suffer severely until death brought a merciful release. During this internal, his reliance on the Savior he had sought thirty years before, never forsook him, but each day his calm faith and resignation to God's will, seemed to increase. When too weak to converse on any other topic, he still was ready to declare the love of Jesus. He possessed the esteem and confidence of the whole community, to no common degree, and especially of his brethren in the church, who repeatedly bestowed upon him the office of steward. His wife and five children mourn this sad bereavement.
