Born Apr. 8, 1939 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Ted and Ruth Waddell Frieze.
He was a graduate of Concord High School and attended Wingate College and Elon College, where he played under a football scholarship.
He was founder and CEO of Concord Engineering and Surveying. He was a member and past president of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors (NCSS) and served four years as the NCSS Governor to the NSPS Board of Governors. He was a Fellow member of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM).
At the time of his death, he was serving as a director on the ACSM Board of Directors. He chaired the ACSM Standards Committee. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) and chaired the NSPS Construction Staking Committee.
He was active in state and national Professional organizations with his business. He was a past member of the board of directors of the Cabarrus County Boys and Girls Club. He also enjoyed his second home in Blowing Rock,NC.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Becky Dorton Frieze; Two daughters, Mrs. Jacinda Coats, of Chino, Calif, and Ms. Kecia Wyman of Glendale, Calif.; two step-sons, Britt Kosma of Concord and Matthew Kosma of Winston-Salem; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jan Teal.
