Chip Moody died Wed. morning, Dec. 26th, at Baylor Medical Center. He lived 54 yr.,8 mo. and 26 days. Chip was born in Oakland, Ca. on Mar. 31, 1947. He then moved around the world as a member of an Air Force pilot's family. He attended high school in Brussels, Belgium and at Richfield in Waco, Tx. Aside from his long and celebrated career in television news, Chip loved his family, flying, skiing, deep-sea fishing, acting, playing blackjack and playing poker, competing in fast-draw contests, raising cattle, and operating his beloved John Deere tractors on his South Dakota farm. He enjoyed presenting an annual fireworks extravanganza on the farm onthe 4th of July for the surrounding community. Chip was deeply commited to his work in support of numerous charities including M.D.Anderson Hospital and The Children's Medical Center of Dallas for which he held his annual Chip Moody Pro-Am Golf Tournament. Chip made Texas his home and over the years developed a deep affection for its people, its history, and its ccharacter. He was very proud to call himself a Texan. Funeral service: 3:00 P.M. Sunday, Dec. 30th, Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W. Park Blvd. Plano. Burial: Will be at Unityville Cemetery, Unityville, S.D. Chip is survived by his wife Victoria (Vikki); son, Robert Phelps Moody III (Trae); Daughter, Tiffin Anne; father, Colonel Robert Phelps Moody, sister, Katharine (Kate) Holbert; brothers, Kelly and Bruce Moody; plus nieces and nephews, Brooke Holbert, Paul and Samuel Moody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chip Moody Child Care Fund and Endowment, 2777 Stemmons, Suite 1025 Dallas, Tx. 75207-2230. Dec. 28, 2001Mr. Moody has the distinction of being the only man to anchor the news at three Dallas-Fort Worth network affiliates – KXAS-TV (Channel 5) from 1971 to 1980, KDFW-TV (Channel 4) from 1980 to 1984, and WFAA-TV from 1987 to 1999. He also worked at stations in Waco, El Paso, and Houston.

Throughout his career he led the competition, earning dozens of awards and carrying his newscasts to the top of the 10 p.m. news ratings.

Mr. Moody also was remembered for his devotion to several local charities, which he supported even after illness forced him off the air in April 1999.

Those charities included Children's Medical Center, which has received more than $1 million from the annual Chip Moody Golf Tournament, said the hospital's chief executive officer, George Farr.
