Samuel A. Hetrick, second child of Michael and Catherine (Acker) Hetrick was born September 23, 1827. Samuel married Elizabeth Rhodes on April 25, 1858; they had 6 children. They lived and died in Burden, Kansas. He was a veteran of the Civil War having enlisted in the 125th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. It was after the war that they moved to Burden, Cowley County, Kansas. One of his granddaughters lives in Yates Center, Kansas. Her name is Mrs. Elsie E. Hassenflug. Mr Hetrick was a carpenter by trade.
Their 6 children are as follows: Malinda, Lavina, Helena, Regina, Anna Mahala and Austin.

Died: - Mr. Samuel Hetrick, passed from this life to live with Christ, November 27, 1900. He was born in Hunnington County, Pa., September 23rd, 1827. Aged 73 years, 2 months 4 days.
He was married to Elizabeth Rhodes, April 23, 1850. To them was born seven children. He left a loving wife and three children to mourn his loss, three of the children having preceeded him to the other world. Mr. Hetrick united with the church of his choice (The Lutheran), on the 29th of August 1846, at the age of nineteen years; serving as a soldier for Jesus Christ over 54 years. He also served his country as a good soldier during the dark days of '61 - '65.
Mr. Hetrick was one of Gods lighthouses which he had set upon a hill to lead the wandering mariner who was adrift on the sea of sin to the safe harbor of Jesus Christ. He is gone to his rest, but the light is still burning.
