Velma Pearl McKinley, 79, of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Gallatin County to the late Thurman and Nina (Cox) Woolard. On Sept. 13, 1947, she married John R. McKinley, and the two spent nearly 61 years being the center of each other's lives.

She graduated from Eldorado High School in 1947. Velma was a longtime member of the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was an avid golfer. She was devoted to her family, and loved to be with them. Her granddaughter, Julie, was very special to her.

She is survived by the love of her life for over 60 years, her husband, John R. McKinley of Harrisburg; a son, John E. McKinley and his wife Rita of Eddyville; granddaughter, Julie and husband Gary W. Roper II of Eddyville; two great-grandsons, Nathan and Nicholas Roper; brother-in-law, Paul Jones of Ridgway; and several nieces, nephews, many special friends, relatives and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a beloved sister, Judy Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Dr. Blaine Welker and the Rev. Arthur Austin Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near Eldorado. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Reed Funeral Chapel. For those who wish, donations may be made to the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
