William was born in Buckingham. He was the oldest son of John and Marry (Carver) Kirk. He was married twice. His first wife was Phebe Malone. They were married Dec 8 1808. They had 11 children. After Phebe's death in 1833, he married Mercy Hutchinson on Sept 5 1839. They had no children. William and Mercy gave the ground on which the Forest Grove Presbyterian Church still stands today.
