Born near Farmington, Van Buren County, Iowa September 25, 1841. She came to Wayne County with her parents when she was about 6 years of age. Mrs. Bevel's early life was spent near the Indian villages along the Des Moines River. She often told of the time she spent playing with the red children in and about their tepees. Coming of pioneer stock, Iowa had been admitted to the Union but two years when she came to Wayne County. The population of the entire state was less than 100,000.
