Adell Humpherys Thurman died March 31, 1994 in the Star Valley Hospital in Afton. Funeral services were held on April 4 at the Grover Ward Chapel. Interment was in the Grover Cemetery.
Adell was born March 19, 1913 in Etna the daughter of Ray Rich Humpherys and Janet adell Gardner. She spent the first seven years of her life in Etna until her mother's death. The family then moved to Logan where Adell lived the rest of her youth.
After receiving a degree at Utah State Agriculture College (Utah State University) she returned to teach school in the Star Valley area. Her first teaching position was in Grover.
Adell married Stewart McCombs Thurman on May 14, 1937 in the Logan Temple. To this union were born five children, Stewert H., Stanley, Janet, Michael and Marchia.
After the children were older Adell resumed teaching. In 1969 she returned to Utah State University to complete a masters degree in educational administration. In 1970 she was selected to be the Star Valley Elementary Education Coordinator. Adell retired in 1976 due to her husband's health problems and lovingly cared for him six years until his death.
Adell faithfully served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a support to her husband in all of his church responsibilities. In ther later years she found much joy in serving in the stake extraction program.
Adell was actively involved in the community including service on the Star Valley Hospital Board, Delta Kappa Gamma and DUP.
Her hobies include quilting, all sorts of handwork, storytelling, gardening, reading and gospel study. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She has been an inspiratio and example. Her entire life has been on of devotion and service to others.
She is survived by her five children, 19 grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Also survived by her brother Hyrum and sister June.
Prececed in death by husband Stewart, brothers Rich and Dean.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 4, in Grover for Adell Humpherys Thurman. All her children were in attendance Stewart H, Stanley, Janet, Michael and Marsha and many grandchildren.
The chapel was filled with many of the Humpherts and Thurman family members and friends.
Interment was in the Grover Cemetery.
