Chico Weekly Chronicle-Record, Saturday, December 8, 1894, pg 1 col 6: Over a Century. Death of Mrs. Nancy L. Babcook, Abed 102 Years. At Honcut, Friday, Mrs. Nancy L. Babcook, passed away. She was born in 1792 and was therefore 102 years of age. Her death was caused simply by the weight of time. Mrs. Babcook was probably the oldest resident of Butte county, if not Northern California, and had lived in the county for many years. She was highly respected and leaves several sons who are now old men, grand children who are nearing middle life and great-grand-children who are grown.

She was born during the administration of President George Washington and was seven years old when he died; she was a young woman of 20 when the war of 1912 broke out and was 56 when the American army marched to the City of Mexico, and at the outbreak of the Civil War had reached the allotted three score and ten. What memories must have crowded around her closing days for she had seen this country grow from a handful of weak States to a nation the grandest and most powerful the world has ever seen. She was almost as old as the nation itself.

The funeral for the aged lady took place Saturday, the services being held at Honcut, interment in the Oroville cemetery – Oroville Mercury.
