"Roy J. Arey, 95, of Rt. 1, Hinton, died August 10, 1990, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past week. He had been in failing health for the past five years.

He was born in Rockingham County, November 17, 1894, and was the son of the late Luther K. and Katie D. Dedrick Arey.

He was a poultry farmer and served with the US Army during World War I. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 27 in Harrisonburg and Mount Bethel Church of the Brethren.

On September 8, 1921, he married the former Margie Virginia Eagle, who died October 3, 1979. Surviving are two daughters, Dawn Smith of Harrisonburg and Gloria Showalter of Hinton; two sons, Stanford E. Arey of Route 4, Harrisonburg, and Dr. Shelvin Arey of Bridgewater; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. William Garber will conduct the funeral at 2 pm Sunday at the Mount Bethel Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in the Mount Horeb Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8 pm today at the McMullen Funeral Home, Route 10, Harrisonburg.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mount Bethel Church of the Brethren, care of Kathy Crouse, 1720 S. Dogwood Drive, Harrisonburg 22801 or to a charity of the donor's choice."
