He served in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1978 (MSGT US Air Force Vietnam). He married his wife Sharon (Huber) January 12, 1963, in Pueblo, CO.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon C. Blanks, Rapid City; two sons, Jerald Blanks, Rapid City, and Harry Blanks, Jr., Pordenone, Italy; two daughters, Katherine "Trina" Blanks, Bessemer City, NC, and Michelle Pollard, Owego, NY; three brothers, Ervin Blanks, Atlanta, GA, Pat Blanks, Huntsville, AL, and Gene Blanks, Ohatche, AL; two sisters, Sue Thornton, Hunstsville, AL, and Peggy Holcomb, Anniston, AL; nine grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial with military honors by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard will be October 25.
Memorials have been established to the Cathedral of Our Lady Perpetual Help, Black Hills Photographic Society, or Hospice of the Hills.
