In the Spanish American War, he joined when the first call for volunteers came and served until the end of the conflict, during which he won the esteem and love of his comrades. He served in the cavalry under Capt. Butler and at the close of the Philippine campaign, he returned to Bloomington. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers, Travelers' Protective Assn., and the First Methodist Church.
He was greatly interested in baseball, football, and basketball. He was survived by his wife, his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. P.A. Bowman, and a brother, Roscoe, of Springfield.
His grandfather, Henry Bowman, was pastor of the First Methodist Church many years before. His father came to Bloomington about 1863 from North Carolina.
