Oldest known son of Benjamin Lawyer Jr & Mary Jane Wires.

Joseph Lawyer married Caroline Myers on 1 Oct 1857 in Washington County, Indiana.

On 19 Aug 1861 he enlisted as a Private in Company G, Indiana 25th Infantry Regiment, serving as a Union Soldier in the Civil War.

On 28 Jun 1863 at Memphis, TN he lost his life at the age of 25 years, leaving a widow and two children.
