Services Tuesday for former city administrator Svendgaard
Services for L. W. "Woody" Svendgaard will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Church Interdemoninational in Omaha with Rev. Elmer Murdoch and Rev. Morton Cain officiating.
Woodrow was born at Kennard on December 3, 1912 to Soren and Anna Madsen Svendgaard. He attended school in Blair.
On June 21, 1936 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Kuhr. He managed the meat market for many years for the Safeway Stores in Blair and later operated his own store. He retired from the City of Blair having served as City Clerk and Administrator for over 30 years. He had served under 10 different mayors.
Woodrow was past president of the Nebraska League of Municipalities, past member of the Blair Fire Dept., member of the Blair Rotary, recipient of Dana College's Distinguished Service Award, recipient of the Blair Jaycee distinguished Service Award. Over the years he was very active in the Christian lay ministry and held bible studies in his home for many years.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie, two sons David and Leland of Omaha, one daughter Mrs. Ron (Cindy) Regier, of Omaha; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; his step-mother, Goldie Svendgaard of Kent, WA, one brother Maynard of Seattle, WA; four sisters, Claire Rothenbuhler, Green Valley, AZ; Emma Andersen, Tempe, AZ; Norma Fattig, St. Joseph, MO; and Louise Andersen of Kent, WA.
Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son Walter Stuart, two brothers Jerry and William and by one sister, Helen Sorensen.
Graveside services will he held in the Blair Cemetery at 1:30 with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
