James Robert (Bob) Cagle Jr.
EATONTON, Ga. — James Robert (Bob) Cagle Jr., 72, of Eatonton and formerly of Colquitt County, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Athens Regional Hospital in Athens, following a year-long illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Cobb Funeral Chapel .
Interment, with military honors, will be in Funston Cemetery.
Born May 23, 1938, in Funston, he was the son of the late James Robert Cagle Sr. and Nettie Elizabeth McLendon Cagle.
He was a 1956 graduate of Moultrie High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Education degree and his Master's in Education degree from the University of Georgia in 1960 and 1962 respectively.
He received his Doctorate in Education from Mississippi State University.
Dr. Cagle became a respected education administrator in both Mississippi and Georgia, serving as superintendent of schools in Greenwood, Miss.; Whitfield County, Ga.; Liberty County, Ga.; and Long County, Ga., before retiring in 2000.
Dr. Cagle also had a distinguished military career through the Air Force, serving in Altos, Okla., and in France and then joining the Air National Guard.
He retired from the military in 1998 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Hankins Cagle of Eatonton; two daughters, Lisa Cagle Reynolds of Greenwood, Miss., and Jeni Cagle Henderson of Starkville, Miss., a grandson, Cal Henderson of Starkville, Miss., and a granddaughter, Mary Hayden Rodgers of Greenwood, Miss.
Other survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lillian Cagle Baldy and Bill Baldy of Lawrenceville, Ga., numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cobb Funeral Chapel.
