She was born Nov. 14, 1899 in Pierce Township, Illinois, the daughter of Michael and Pricilla Alice (Kuter) Krieger. Bernice was united in marriage on Dec., 26, 1920 in Ottawa Illinois, to Lester C. Allen and spent her years as a loving homemaker for her family, always keeping an active mind and busy hands.
Mrs. Allen was a member of the Pierce United Methodist Church in Maple park, where she was active in its activities such as having serviced as the former treasurer of the United Methodist Women's organization. She, along with her husband were members of the Kane County Farm Bureau. Bernice loved gardening and handwork of all kinds, especially making things for her family and many friends. She was an avid fan of TV bowling and Cubs baseball, enjoyed working crossword puzzles and doing word searches. Her heart was always tied to the life she had shared with her husband on their farm and she continues to show her love for animals of all kinds.
Survivors include her two children, Marilyn (Virtus) McNary of Aurora, and Merle (Anita) Allen of Maple Park; two grandchildren, Brian McNary of Aurora, and Karen (Christopher) Mang of Oswego; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 2, 1966; two sisters, Veda hering and Edna Allen; and on brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997 at 10 a.m. at pierce Church in Maple Park, with Rev. Richard P. Wagner officiating. Interment will follow at Pierce Cemetery in Maple Park.
