The cemetery record stating burial was on the 28th is a typo in transcription. As per the internment card on file with the cemetery records and the statewide death index, Allen Harris passed on the 18th. As per family stories, it was known that Allen was failing and his parents made arrangements in advance and buried him on the same day as his death. The family chipped in for a plot but the marker was beyond their means at the time. The family strongly suspects Rh disease to be the cause of Allen's death.

Allen's marker was placed in the 1990s by Allen's older sister, Ella Gertrude Easley Bradley and her husband, Ernest Earl Bradley. They also placed a cenotaph (memorial # 7365118) for Allen in the Gum Springs Cemetery in Gum Springs, Longview, TX where his parents, sister, niece and nephew are buried.

Also a quick fun fact, his mother named him after the doctor who brought him into the world and then signed his death certificate. Allen comes from his grandmother's maiden name.

Inscription

Grandson of Ella and John Johnson" Ella used this inscription so that Allen was tied to the other members of his direct family who are also buried in Oakland.

Gravesite Details

The incorrect date is on the marker because Ella Gertrude didn't have access to original documents if she had even known of their existence and long-distance researchers relied on the clerks for accurate data.
