Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Walter Elliot III and Dr. Jonathan Reimer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery in Darien with Jonathan Groezinger, Joshua Groezinger, Peter Higgs, Steve Schofield, James Reames and Sam Reames IV serving as pallbearers.
Born November 18, 1921 in London, Ontario Canada to the late William and Jane Andison Gladstone; he was a retired minister. Mr. Gladstone grew up in Chicago, IL and graduated from Lakeview High School there. He served in the US Army during WW II in the 82nd Airborne Division in the 508th Parachute Regiment. He parachuted into Normandy on D-Day 1944. In July he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.
After being discharged, he attended Emmaus Bible School and Moody Bible Institute. He was involved in summer Bible camp work spanning Canada and the United States. He also served as itinerant minister at many churches throughout the US, Canada and the Bahamas from 1955 through 2005.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sons, Fred Gladstone, John Gladstone and Paul Gladstone, a grandson, Cole Gladstone, a brother, Bill Gladstone, four sisters, Myrtle Gladstone, Violet Henninger, Joan Schofield and Mae Naffin.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mattie R. Gladstone of Darien, a son David Gladstone of Darien, a daughter, Mary Groezinger of the Bahamas, a daughter in law, Marilyn Gladstone of Cairo, GA, two sisters, Doris Meinhart of Beverly Hills, FL, and Gloria Strande of Chicago, IL, eight grandchildren, Collin Gladstone, Cameron Gladstone, Josh Groezinger, Jonathan Groezinger, Joy Higgs, Julia Groezinger, Drew Gladstone and Hannah Gladstone, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
