On 16 Jan 1957, the Minister of Defence replied to a letter from the Right Hon. Keith Holyoake at parliament House, Wellington
.. Dear Mr Holyoake, You will recall that recently you approached us on behalf of Mr B. (Bertie) Clark, 9 Gray Street, Woodville, regarding a Will executed by his brother, Cecil John Clark, while serving with the 1st New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
I have now made enquiries and find that Messrs Siddells and Siddells, Solicitors of Woodville, communicated with the Army authorities on this matter some few weeks ago when they were informed that there was no record of a Will made by the soldier in question.
Where Wills are held by Army on behalf of solders serving overseas these documents are returned to them on their discharge and, normally, no record of them is retained.
Assuming that Mr Clark's brother had made and left his Will with the Army authorities this would have been returned to him in the usual way after discharge and in the circumstances I regret that I am not able to assist him in tracing the document.
Mr Clark's letter is returned herewith.
Yours faithfully, T. L. Macdonald, Minister of Defence.
