A memorial service for Charles D. Hounshell of Greensboro, N.C, a former faculty member at Emory University, was held at Marvin United Methodist Church

Dr. Hounshell, 72, died of Parkinson's disease Monday at Greensboro Health Care Center. The body has been cremated. He was a professor of political science and an associate dean at Emory University in Atlanta from 1950 to 1966. Later, he was dean of New-comb College in New Orleans in 1967-69; president of Birmingham-Southern College from 1969 to 1971; an assistant to the president of the University of Alabama in 1971-72; vice-chancellor for administration of University of North Carolina-Greensboro, from 1972 to 1980; and a professor of political science at the latter until retiring in 1986.

Charles David Hounshell was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Rural Retreat, Va. He graduated from Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va.; received a doctorate in political science at the University of Virginia; and served in the Navy during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Yoak Hounshell; a son, W. Douglas Hounshell of Berkeley, Calif.; a daughter, Elizabeth Tripp of Greenville, N.C; two brothers, Frederick R. Hounshell of Rural Retreat and Dallas W. Hounshell of Franklinton, La.; two sisters, Anna Guy of Jacksonville, and Mabel Creger of Marietta, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Served in US Navy; standard VA military stone also at this site.
