John Parker was a man well known to almost everyone in the county. He was born in Ireland, March 26, 1828, and cane to Philadelphia in 1846, where he lived and learned to weave in-grain, Venetian and rag carpet. He came to Eastbrook in1863 and worked in Craig's woolen factory here, as well as, Armstrong County. He also worked in the drugstore in Pittsburg. In 1865, he opened a carpet weaving establishment, and started many a young couple in married life by furnishing their first carpet. Mr. Parker was an excellent worker, and got work from all parts of the county. He did nothing but the very best work. He was married in Philadelphia, in 1847 to Agnes Potts, born to them were six sons and two daughters. John served the township as tax collector and constable for 12 years, and for the people of Lawrence County as tipstave (a court officer whose duties included assisting the judge and acting as crier) in the Courthouse. He was always a good officer, a good citizen and a kind neighbor.
