A member of the Mary Ball Chapter of the DAR, she served as regent from 1932-1934. She was also the Regent of the Virginia Dare Chapter of the DAR.

She was the daughter of Albert Martin and Mary Caroline (Clapp) Bowen. She was born in Wisconsin. Miss Bowen married George Stillwell Cortelyou on September 14, 1912 at Brodhead, Rock County, Wisconsin. They were the parents of two daughters, Dorothy Bowen and Jane Bowen Cortelyou. She died at the age of 91 years of age in Gig Harbor, Washington.

Her obituary: Mrs. Edith B. Cortelyou, 91, of 911 N. G St., died Sunday. Born in Broadhead, Wis., Mrs. Cortelyou had lived in Tacoma since 1914. She was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church. She was past president of Chapter B.A. of P.E.O., a regent of Virginia Dare D.A.R. Chapter and a member of Jane Garvin Orthopedic Guild and Gamma Phi Beta. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. J. H. (Jane) Galbraith Jr., of Gig Harbor and Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) Emerick of Menlo Park, Calif.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Buckley-King Mortuary is in charge.

Private family services for Mrs. Edith Cortelyou will be held Tues., 3:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Robert C. Hill officiating. Interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery. Services under the direction of Buckley-King Mortuary.
