Richard Edward Allen was born about 1745 in Wilkes County, NC. His father is unknown. In 1811, Richard and his brother, John Adams Allen were named executors of their stepfather's will in Rutherford County, NC. Their stepfather was William Edwards. He named his wife as Omy.
In 1814, Richard was a private soldier in Capt. Moores Company of Militia from Rutherford County. They served near Wadesboro during the War of 1812.
Richard E. Allen was a farmer, a man of medium height, with light hair and blue eyes; he married Anna Walker early in 1815 in Rutherford County, Anna Walker was born between 1795 and 1800 in Rutherford County. They stayed in Rutherford County until 1846 when they and all their known children moved to Allens Creek in Haywood County. Richard died of Dropsy of the heart in February 1850. Anna was still living on Allens Creek in 1881. Both are buried in Greenhill Cemetery near Waynesville.
The known children of Richard E. and Anna Walker Allen: are John Allen b. 1819, married Sarah Ann Yelton, in Rutherford County; Ommie Allen, b. 1825; married Martin Sisk, in Rutherford County; Jeremiah Allen b. May 5, 1826, married Elizabeth Allen in Haywood County; Elizabeth Allen b. 1831 married James Young, in Haywood County; Milla Allen, b. 1833; David Allen, b. 1835, married Margaret C. Mann in Haywood County, Martha Allen, b. 1838; Margaret Allen, b 1840; William M. Allen, b. 1842; Nancy Allen, b 1846.
