Corsicana oilman Joe Butler dies
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Tuesday at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel for Joe E. Butler, prominent oil operator and rancher of Corsicana who died Sunday in Memorial Hospital at age 80.
Rev. Harold Lansford will officiate with interment following in Oakwood Cemetery.
Butler was co-founder of the Butler-Calhoun Oil Company that flourished here in Corsicana's oil boom days. A native of Mount Calm who had lived in Corsicana for 52 years, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Corsicana and served on its board of deacons.
He served as Chairman of the Board of First National Bank here.
He was an active leader in civic and area activities, serving as Past President of Corsicana Country Club and the Rotary Club. Butler was a Past President of both the East Texas Chamber of Commerce and the Trinity River Authority of Texas. He served as TRA President from 1959 to 1963.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Joe E. Butler of Corsicana; one daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Butler Thomas of Dallas; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Horace Butler of Dallas and John P. Butler of Midland; and one sister, Mrs. W.T. Nelson of Dallas.
