School administrator. Willis Albert Tarver was the first principal (beginning in the Fall of 1956) of Meritt Hutton Junior-Senior High School in its then brand new building, Adams County, Thornton, Colorado-School District # 12, now the 5-Star System-(the school was changed in 1974 to the Meritt Hutton Junior High School); the Thornton High School, Thornton, Colorado replaced the Meritt Hutton High School part. In the early 1990's the Meritt Hutton building, located on North Washington Street, Thornton, was demolished.
As Principal, Mr. Willis A. Tarver was a strict, stern, and no nonsense disciplinarian. He later held other high administrative posts in Adams County School District Number 12. The Tarver Elementary School, 3500 Summit Grove Parkway, Thornton, Colorado is named in his honor. Master, Kiowa Lodge # 116, A. E. & A. M. (Delivering Masonic Light to the High Plains), 1956. Married (March 30, 1945) to Imogene Branch who taught business courses at Meritt Hutton-father of Willis A. "Tarby" Tarver II, 1963 graduate, Meritt Hutton High School.
Upon their retirement the Tarvers returned to Louisiana where they were engaged in civic and community affairs.
